MEMO TO: Chapter Leaders
FROM: Ron Norton Reel, CCA President
SUBJECT: Building Strong Locals Academy
We are actively seeking candidates for the 5th class of the CCA Building Strong Locals (BSL) Academy. The Academy is designed to train and empower chapter members. It is with great excitement, I invite your local chapter to consider this opportunity from CCA. The Building Strong Locals Academy initially funded by a grant from the NEA, is currently funded by CCA, and is now entering its 5th year. We offer this important training program with an emphasis on strengthening local chapters.
Please consider nominating a person(s) from your chapter for The Academy for Building Strong Locals Class of 2010-2011. Approximately fifteen faculty members from our local chapters will be chosen. Please apply to increase the chances your local chapter will have a member in the 2010-2011 BSL Academy. The primary goal of the Academy is to help prepare faculty to work in their local chapters with confidence and a working knowledge of their rights and responsibilities.
Members of the Academy chosen for 20010-2011 will be introduced at the 2010 CCA Spring Conference during the Saturday luncheon. The candidates will begin their exclusive training at the Rio All Suites Hotel in Las Vegas.
Candidates must commit to attend all Academy classes during the 2010-2011 conference term. These dedicated members will participate in training sessions parallel to the following CCA conferences:
Spring: April 23-25, 2010 (Las Vegas)
Fall: October 8-10, 2010 (South San Francisco)
Winter: February 11-13, 2011 (Palm Springs)
This is a wonderful opportunity for your chapter as well as the candidate who participates. The purpose of The Building Strong Locals Academy is to educate members to serve effectively at the local chapter level. The deadline to nominate participants is March 30, 2010 at 5:00 p.m.
The program is voluntary, however once the candidate has accepted the Academy Program, he/she will be required to attend all Academy sessions. Candidates must be available on the dates listed above to attend workshops scheduled during CCA conference dates. CCA funds will be used to pay expenses associated with participation in the Academy. Chapter delegates for each conference will not be changed because of participation in the Academy.
